Changes for this application: selected US named populated places in the fifty
states and District of Columbia; retained official / ASCII names and city
reference coordinates; omitted neighborhood sections and non-place features.
The city catalog is downloaded once during installation. Its download hash and
record count are stored in cities-us.source.json on the backend. It is not a
complete gazetteer. Ambiguous city names receive no marker; unrecognized labels
are withheld. City coordinates are never derived from a truck's coordinates.

STATE OUTLINES
Derived from UScounties.shp in basemap-data 2.0.0, distributed with Basemap:
https://github.com/matplotlib/basemap
Counties were combined by state and outlines were simplified for this interface.
Map projections / Alaska and Hawaii insets are for display only. Boundaries are
not current survey or navigational information. No GSHHG coastline data is used.
